Late rally lifts Lookouts past Smokies, 3-1

Posted: Updated:

KODAK, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Nick Buss hit a solo home run to force extra innings and Jake Lemmerman delivered the go-ahead RBI-single in the eleventh as Chattanooga rallied past Tennessee 3-1 Tuesday night at Smokies Park.

With the win, the Lookouts (34-24) maintain a two-game lead over Jackson in the Southern League's North Division. The Generals beat Mobile, 7-5, on Tuesday.

Justin Bour's RBI-double off Lookouts' starter Allen Webster in the first inning stood as the game's lone tally until the ninth. Webster was on his game the rest of the night, allowing just the one run while scattering five hits and two walks opposite eight strikeouts in six innings.

Buss led off the ninth with a game-tying blast, smashing new reliever Frank Batista's fourth pitch over the right field fence.

Jan Vazquez and Aaron Miller drew back-to-back walks to lead off the eleventh, then Lemmerman's two-out single to center scored Vazquez with the go-ahead run. Miller scored one batter later on a wild pitch to pad the lead.

Lemmerman had three hits and Buss finished with two to account for five of the Lookouts' seven hits in the game.

Reliever Steven Ames (3-3) gave up two hits but recorded five strikeouts in two scoreless innings to pick up the win. Geison Aguasviva then struck out a pair to shut the door on the Smokies in a hitless eleventh for his first save.

The two teams will play game four of their five-game series at 7:15 p.m. ET Wednesday.

A "win, win, win" and enough time to build a new stadium in Chattanooga is all Jason Freier needs and the Chattanooga Lookouts would no longer be playing inside AT&T Field on Hawk Hill.
