Lookouts' Nunez named SL Hitter of the Week

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Luis Nunez's recent hot streak earned the Chattanooga infielder Hitter of the Week honors Monday from the Southern League.

Nunez hit at a .500 clip (10-for-20) in six games last week against Jacksonville and Tennessee, collecting three doubles, two homers and six RBI. He also scored five runs in helping the Lookouts to a 5-1 record for the week.

For the season, the 25-year-old has hit .257 with 20 doubles, five triples, 10 homers, 51 runs, 62 RBI, and 19 stolen bases.

Nunez is the second straight Chattanooga player to win the honor, following Brahiam Maldonado. Blake Smith also won the award earlier this season.

The Lookouts will play game two of a five-game series at Tennessee Monday night. They return home Friday to AT&T Field to open a five-game homestand with Jackson.

Chattanooga currently holds a 2.5 game lead on the Jackson in the North Division, and is six games ahead of the division's other three teams. Since the Generals won the first-half title, the Lookouts could still finish second to them and qualify for the playoffs.
