Bradley Central 31, Polk County 7
BENTON, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Logan Fetzner rushed for a whopping 235 yards and two scores to lead Bradley Central to a 31-7 win over host Polk County in the season-opener for both teams.
After graduating talented running backs Rue Goldstein and Justin Houston from a year ago, the Bears' offensive line opened plenty of holes for Fetzner to pick up the slack. The junior running back racked up 88 yards and a score in the first half on just six carries en route to a 14-7 Bradley Central (1-0) lead at the break.
Polk County (0-1) went toe-to-toe with the Bears in the first half, and could have held a lead at the break if not for two turnovers inside the Bradley Central red zone.
Fetzner opened the third quarter with an eight-yard touchdown, then Baylor Terrell added another on a short run before a field goal capped off a 17-point second half that put the game away.
Baylor 44, Soddy-Daisy 7
SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Soddy-Daisy scored first, but Baylor scored the most in a season-opening 44-7 rout of the host Trojans.
George Porter exploded for 194 yards rushing and four touchdowns to fuel the romp. Two of his scores came in a three-minute stretch in the third quarter in which the Red Raiders (1-0)scored 23 points to blow the game open.
Nick Tiano and Michael O'Conner split time under center for Baylor, combining to go 4-of-14 for 104 yards. Tiano threw two interceptions, but also hit Reggie Upshaw for a 42-yard score in the first quarter. O'Conner had a 72-yard touchdown run called back because of a holding penalty.
Boyd-Buchanan 41, Chattanooga Christian 0
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Boyd-Buchanan racked up 235 yards on the ground and added a special teams touchdown en route to a 41-0 Week 0 win over Chattanooga Christian.
Rance Harden (94 yards), John Hale (55 rushing yards) and reserve sophomore Austin Jackson (71 yards) did most of the heavy lifting for a Bucs' attack that built up a 27-0 lead at the break.
Harden opened the scoring with a five-yard run, then quarterback Jim Cardwell added a pair of touchdown jaunts that were sandwiched around Chase Miller's 18-yard touchdown return of a blocked CCS (0-1) punt.
Levi Corbett completed 22-of-31 passes for 220 yards and Jay Sims caught eight passes for 92 yards, but the Chargers were unable to crack the end zone.
