Fourteen year old hunter prepares for elk hunt

Posted: Updated:

(WRCB) - A 14-year-old Tennessee hunter is making history as she prepares for an elk hunt this fall.

Greene County native Jessica Parkins will be the first ever teenager to participate in the fourth annual Tennessee event.

The high school freshman's name was drawn out of a pool of about 300 teenage applicants.

Parkins has been hunting with her dad since she was 7 years old and says her love for outdoorsmanship is a family tradition.

Tennessee lifted the ban on elk hunting in 2009.

This October, Jessica and her dad will have two days near Northwest Knoxville to harvest one of about 300 elk in the Cumberland Wildlife Management Area.
