Obesity epidemic in the US

Posted: Updated:

(WRCB) - The latest numbers from the CDC shows Americans waistlines are growing.

Twelve states, including Alabama, have an obesity rate of 30%.

Tennessee and Georgia aren't far behind.

More than 29% of adults in Tennessee consider themselves obese.

It's about 28% in Georgia.

Overall, the report shows a third of American are obese.

It adds up to 90 million men, women and children and is disappointing news after decades of trying to get Americans to lose weight.

Healthcare costs for the obese are running at $150 billion a year and run the risk of bankrupting the system.

Not one state in the CDC survey had an obesity rate less than 20%.
