EAST RIDGE, TN. (WRCB) -- Lightning may have caused an East Ridge house to catch fire Monday.

It happened in the 3700 Block of Connelly Lane, shortly after 4:00 p.m.

East Ridge Spokesman Erik Hopkins says the attic was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, but crews were able to keep the flames from spreading.

The homeowner told investigators she heard a loud boom and immediately smelled smoke.

She and three others made it safely out of the home.

Hopkins says the fire caused about $50,000 in damage.
