Lane closures planned this weekend on U.S. 27

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Motorists traveling along U.S. 27 through the ongoing construction zone will need to give themselves a bit of extra travel time when traveling this weekend

Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights to perform road work.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.

Beginning Friday evening, there will be a right lane closure from Signal Mtn. Rd. to the Manufacturers Rd. exit ramp on U.S. 27 South between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. to remove guardrail for upcoming girder erection.

During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.

On Saturday, the contractor will close Manning Street between the southbound and northbound entrance ramps to U.S. 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to erect girders for a new bridge.  THP troopers will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.

The Manufacturers Road entrance ramp onto U.S. 27 North has been closed until spring of 2013 to allow for construction of several retaining walls and portions of the new bridges over the railroad and Manning Street. The Manning Street and Whitehall Road exit ramps from U.S. 27 North have both been permanently closed.

The estimated project completion date is October of 2014.
