Niota mom charged with abuse and neglect

Posted:

MCMINN COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- A Niota mother was awakened by an emergency worker, and then tasered twice on her way to jail.

Ericka Silver was arrested Thursday after a McMinn County deputy found the 23-year-old unconscious in her bed.

The officer rushed to the County Road 187 home, after calls that she left her two children alone, playing outside for several hours.

The incident report says the deputy couldn't wake up Silver, but EMS paramedics were called and were able to get her out of bed.

The report says Silver started kicking the windows and doors on the ride to jail, causing the deputy to pull over twice and taser her.

Silver is charged with child abuse and neglect, resisting arrest and assault of an officer.
