Retherford's homer off Heckathorn leads Lookouts to win
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WRCB) -- C.J. Retherford's solo home run in the ninth continued Kyle Heckathorn's struggles against his hometown team and lifted Chattanooga to a 6-5 win over Huntsville Monday night at Joe Davis Stadium.
Heckathorn, a former Ringgold High star and Fort Oglethorpe native, dropped to 0-3 against the Lookouts this year after surrendering Retherford's shot to left that broke a 5-all tie.
The big right-hander was moved to the bullpen after going 2-9 in 17 starts to start the year, but has still given up seven runs in eleven-plus innings in six relief appearances.
J.T. Wise got Chattanooga off to a quick start with an RBI double in the first and a three-run homer in the third that opened a 5-0 lead.
The Stars answered with two runs in the third and another in the fourth off Lookouts' starter Aaron Miller, before tying it with two runs in the seventh.
Heckathorn entered and pitched a scoreless eighth before allowing Retherford's homer with one out in the ninth.
Steven Rodriguez (1-0) picked up the win with an inning and a third of scoreless relief, while Steven Ames tossed a scoreless ninth for his 12th save. Miller was charged with three runs, two earned, on six hits in five innings.
The win coupled with Jackson's loss helped Chattanooga extend its lead to two games over the Generals in the Southern League's North Division. The Lookouts will play three more games in Huntsville, starting with game three of the series at 7:43 p.m. ET on Tuesday night.
