Posted: Updated:

HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- A Hamilton County corrections officer has been arrested and charged with theft after lying to co-workers about being deathly ill.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division initiated an investigation this past June involving Corrections Officer Dale Daniel.

This investigation stems from statements and comments made by the defendant to co-workers in regards to him having a life threatening illness.

The investigation also revealed from this deception, he received money to help with his purported added expenses as well as donated leave time for a total of $2,154.09.

This investigative case was presented to the Hamilton County Grand Jury on July 16, and nine counts of Misdemeanor Theft were returned on Thursday.

Daniel turned himself into the Fugitive Division today and was transported to the Hamilton County Jail for processing.
