Snake and electrical substation make for a bad mix

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Tuesday, a large rat snake slithered its way into the North Athens substation on Ingleside Avenue.

The snake created an arc of 13 thousand volts and as a result, many lost electricity.

Athens Utility Board workers cleared the debris after the mishap, and checked to make sure there wasn't any damage.

They then closed the breakers to bring electricity back online.

About 5,800 people lost power yesterday because of the snake.
