TN lottery sets another record in sales of $1.31 billion

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- The Tennessee Lottery set another record for their fiscal year of 2012, With more than $1.31 billion in total sales besting last year's $1.18 billion.

This year's totals, covering the fiscal year July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, marked the eighth consecutive year the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation has posted record sales.

Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation announced the record total Monday, which includes $323.4 million raised for state education programs, a 10.2% percent jump over last year's record total of $293.4 million. This resulted in approximately $30 million more to be used for education-related funding in Tennessee.

"On behalf of the Board of Directors, we couldn't be more pleased with these striking results produced by the Lottery Corporation," said Keith Simmons, Chair of the Lottery's Board of Directors. "Year-after-year, our Lottery continues to outperform overall industry growth, a tribute to the hard work and business-like approach that characterizes the operations of this organization. The end result brings in more vital funding for scholarships, grants and other education-related programs for Tennessee."
