Ringgold man charged with girlfriend's murder

Posted: Updated:

RINGGOLD, GA. (WRCB) -- A Catoosa County woman's death is now considered murder and investigators believe her boyfriend is responsible.

On Monday, the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office was called to Vicki Lacombe's apartment, thinking she had committed suicide.

Her boyfriend, Terry Saxton, who discovered her body, is now charged in her death. Saxton's sister tells Channel 3, he would never harm anyone.

Fifty-year-old Terry Saxton is charged with murder.

Saxton told investigators he came home and found his girlfriend, 55-year-old Vicki Lacombe, dead on the living room floor.

"They were really quiet. There's no arguments. There's nothing of arguments," says neighbor Mario Mateo.

Mateo says the couple had only lived there for about five months. He only exchanged occasional waves.

"It's really sad. I never thought it's going to happen in my neighborhood and got kids around me and I don't want it to happen to my house too," says Mateo.

"Our family is just devastated beyond words," says Saxton's sister Vicki Brown.

Brown talked to Channel 3 by phone from Knoxville.

She says she was on the phone with her brother shortly after he found Lacombe's body and he told her what happened.

"Bent down, and she looked like she was okay, but just asleep. And when I turned her over, her color was blue and purple," says Brown.

In the arrest report, officers say they found packed suitcases by the door, an overturned table and broken dishes in the kitchen, as if some sort of scuffle had taken place.

"There were some differences between him and Vicki. He had asked her, that right now was not a good time and that they needed to separate for a little while," says Brown.

She says they had only been together since January.

She says she is confident her brother did not do anything wrong.

"I don't feel it in my spirit at all that there was anything inside of Terry that he would have hurt this woman," says Brown.

Investigators say during questioning it came out that Saxton and Lacombe had a history of domestic abuse.

Autopsy results show Lacombe's official cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head and torso.

In addition to murder, Saxton is charged with aggravated battery.

He is in the Catoosa County Jail. His bond has not been set.
