BLEDSOE CO., TN (WRCB) - The last three inmates have been transferred from the Taft Youth Center in Bledsoe County.

For years, the facility has housed the most troubled youth under state care.

DCS spokeswoman Molly Sudderth told our partners at the Times Free Press that 43 students had been dispersed among the three remaining state youth centers.

Forty others were released under court orders or were sent to facilities near their county where they're to stand trial.

Sequatchie County Juvenile Court Judge Tommy Austin says closing the Taft Youth Center is a bad idea.

The state says the move will save eight and a half million dollars a year.
