Crime Stoppers: Sav-A-Ton Robbery at Gunpoint

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WRCB-TV) - This week's crime happened along Highway 153, across the street from the Hixson Walmart. "It's kind of unusual for somebody to go in and rob a place at 6:30 in the morning," said Chattanooga Police Officer Daniel Jones. But, Crime Stoppers teaches us criminals are not worried about the usual. As evidenced at the Sav-a-Ton convenience store on May 25th, they are not bound by the clock, either.

Surveillance video shows the thug enter the store. He appears to be a white male, 5'8" to 5'11", wearing a brown hooded jacket with a bandana around his face and he has a gun. "He's carrying either a rifle or a shotgun," said Off. Jones. "We think that it has a pistol grip."

He made the clerk empty the register before forcing him to the floor. The punk even grabbed some smokes before making his escape. "He actually ran away, it looks like," Off. Jones added, "because we actually found money that he had dropped." That was right along Carmac Road, just beside the business.

"We're lucky that nobody was inside the business at the time," said Jones, "however, there may have been someone that was at the pumps that may have noticed this guy." Or, perhaps someone has heard about the crime since. Maybe you recognize the guy, his clothing, or the way he carries himself, from the surveillance pictures and video. If so, let us get you a reward. "The only thing we care about is the information," Jones said. "We don't care who gives us the information, so long as that information is viable and we make an arrest on it, they're able to get cash money for it."

You will remain anonymous and this guy will face some hard time. "Anytime any type of weaponry is used," Jones explained, "either a pistol, a rifle, a shotgun, whatever it may be, it's obviously going to make the elements of the offense go up." Up to a thousand dollars reward is waiting. Call Crime Stoppers at: 698-3333. An officer may answer the phone, but you will never have to reveal your identity.
