Lookouts' rally falls short at Tennessee

KODAK, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Tennessee used a four-run third inning to build an early lead and then held off a late Chattanooga rally in a 4-3 win over the Lookouts in the rubber match of a three-game set Monday night at Smokies Park.

Chattanooga (11-8) has lost five of its last eight since winning seven in a row, but remains tied with Jackson atop the Southern League's North Division.

The one big inning was enough to hand Ethan Martin (7-5) the loss. He gave up four runs on four hits and a walk in the fourth inning alone, but allowed just one hit and one walk in his six other scoreless innings.

Junior Lake, Logan Watkins and Justin Bour all doubled to drive in runs in the Smokies' four-run third for a 4-0 lead.

Chattanooga didn't get on the board until Blake Smith smacked a two-run double to center in the eighth. Luis Nunez walked to lead off the ninth and later scored on a throwing error, but the Lookouts stranded the tying run at second to end the game.

Dallas Beeler (4-6) got the win after giving up four hits and striking out five in seven shutout innings.

Chattanooga is off Tuesday before returning home to AT&T Field to open a three-game series with Pensacola on Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. ET.
