UPDATE: One person dead from early morning shooting

CHATTANOOGA, TN. (WRCB) -- "Why, she didn't do nothing to nobody. She was so sweet," cries Albert Swan Friday morning.

Close friends and family of Barbara Johnson, 46, can't understand who or why someone could take her life in cold blood. "Somebody called on the phone and said Barbara was dead," he says.

Police tell Channel 3 the call came in around 4 a.m. The victim was shot twice in the head with an automatic pistol.

"She was walking out here for some reason," says Lorenzo Harper, Johnson's husband.

Harper says they were back in town from Cleveland, Ohio and had been in Chattanooga for a couple of weeks. "We just came back for a minute cause she wanted to see her daughter, to reconcile differences," says Harper.

After living a hard life she was doing everything she could to get on the right track, form a relationship with her children and get off drugs. She was a part of an outreach program called Victory in Progress or V.I.P., aimed to help recovering drug addicts. "Trying to change her world, she was doing the best she can," says Harper.

However, someone ended her fight for a better life. "She was walking, guy got out of the car, talked to her, shot her," Harper explains.

Police scanned the crime scene with high-tech 3-D equipment. They don't have any suspect information but witnesses claim they saw a white Chrysler 300 leaving the scene.

Harper says they planned to head back to Ohio next week.
