Man accused of Chattanooga murder stays in jail on $1.7 million bond
CHATTANOOGA, TN. (Times Free Press) -- A man charged with two counts of first-degree murder in two separate shootings will remain in jail on a $1.7 million bond, a judge ruled today.
Devante Stoudemire, 20, has a preliminary hearing set for Tuesday in Hamilton County General Sessions Court on the murder charge, plus charges of especially aggravated robbery and criminal conspiracy. The charges are in connection with the shooting death of 38-year-old Steve Mosley on Monday.
In Criminal Court today, Judge Barry Steelman declined to revoke or reduce a bond he set on Stoudemire's first-degree murder charge in a 2010 killing, saying prosecutors had weak evidence on the charge and it was on the verge of being dismissed.
Steelman told prosecutors that the $1.7 million bond should keep Stoudemire in jail, if they were worried about him fleeing or being a danger to the community.
