Smokies snap Lookouts' 7-game winning streak

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Blake Smith brought AT&T Field to life with one swing of the bat Monday night.

Unfortunately it was about the only life Chattanooga's offense flashed all night.

Smith's grand slam wasn't enough in a 6-4 loss to Tennessee, which snapped the Lookouts' seven-game win streak.

Chattanooga pitching had given up just nine runs total during that six-game span, but Allen Webster (3-8) got tagged for five in six innings and Red Patterson gave up another in the eighth.

Any chance at the Lookouts' fourth shutout in five games was tossed out early when Logan Watkins reached on an error and scored on Jae-Hoon Ha's double. It was one of two unearned runs the Smokies scored off four Lookouts' errors.

Junior Lake's RBI-single and Greg Rohan's two-run double sparked a four-run third inning that pushed Tennessee's advantage to 5-0.

Webster sparked a two-out rally in the fifth with a double to left before Rafael Ynoa's walk and Nick Buss' single loaded the bases. Smith cleared them with his tenth homer of the season to cut the lead to 5-4.

Smith, who added a double, and Buss had two hits apiece to account for more than half of Chattanooga's seven hits.

The two teams will play the rubber match of the three-game series at 6:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The Lookouts' annual Fourth of July fireworks show will follow.
