UPDATE: Police identify victim in fatal East Chattanooga shooting
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – We now know the name of the man killed in East Chattanooga Monday afternoon.
Police say the 38-year-old victim was targeted by his killer, who is still on the run.
"It's just sad, and I feel sorry for what happened," said LaKendra Rivers. "He was a cool dude, he didn't bother nobody."
Neighbors flooded North Hawthorne Street Monday afternoon, where police say 38-year-old Steve Mosley was gunned down.
"There were multiple shots fired, but we're not able to tell how many times the victim was shot," said Officer Nathan Hartwig, spokesperson for the Chattanooga Police Department.
Police say Mosley was shot in front of his apartment, and stumbled to his neighbor's door for help.
"The victim was able to make it over to side B, where he collapsed, and was pronounced dead on the scene," said Hartwig.
This was no random act of violence. Police say the victim was targeted, by the man seen running away.
Witnesses say the suspect was seen running toward Sheridan Avenue, where he was last spotted.
"We've got k-9 and all the officers available out looking for him right now," said Hartwig, on the scene.
While neighbors heard gun shots, witnesses didn't get a good look at the shooter.
"I think there were quite a few people who heard what was going on," explained Hartwig, "but we're not sure if anyone saw it because it's so hot out, most people are staying indoors."
Staying indoors is exactly what LaKendra Rivers will be doing.
"I want my baby to be safe," she told Channel 3, "all this gang banging, all this shooting, it needs to stop, it needs to stop ASAP!"
