ROSSVILLE, GA (WRCB) -- Vonn Bell  is one step closer to choosing his college destination.

Ridgeland's star safety, who ranks among the nation's top recruits in the class of 2013, pared his list of possible suitors down to just seven teams this weekend.

Panthers' head coach Mark Mariakas said Saturday morning that Bell had contacted coaches at Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Texas, and Clemson to inform them he's still interested in their schools.

Mariakas said Bell plans to cut his list down to two teams by Labor Day. Bell told our media partners at the Times Free Press that if he hasn't already done so, he'll announce his final decision at the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game in January.

Bell burst onto the national recruiting scene in December when Mariakas sent out a highlight reel of his breakout junior season.

The video of Bell's teeth-rattling hits and natural football instincts backed up his video game-like stats of 180 tackles (119 solo), five interceptions, three forced fumbles and three fumble recovery returns for a touchdown.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound rising senior garnered his first offer from Georgia's Mark Richt in early January, and took calls from Alabama's Nick Saban and Tennessee's Derek Dooley soon after.

Bell was recently ranked among the nation's top 20 overall prospects by, making him the most sought-after recruit in Mariakas' successful Ridgeland run that has included Alabama signee Mike Bowman, Oklahoma State signee Nigel Nicholas and Georgia signee Devin Bowman.
