OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (WRCB) -- A trio of University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball players continued to play leading roles Friday on day two of the seventh annual World Cup of Softball.
Vivian Morimoto hit a two-run homer and combined with teammate Ninjja Suetsugu to record three hits and score all three runs in Brazil's 4-3 loss to Netherlands.
Fellow UTC slugger Nicole Osterman also hit a two-run home run to account for all of Puerto Rico's scoring in a 7-2 loss to Netherlands.
Morimoto's two-run shot in the fourth scored Suetsugo to give Brazil a 2-0 lead. After the Netherlands took the lead with a four-run rally in the top of the sixth, Suetsugu, singled and scored Brazil's final tally on Martha Murazawa's RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.
Suetsugu and Morimoto, who are hitting third and fourth in the Brazilian lineup, have collected six hits, three RBI and all six of the Brazil's runs through the first three games.
Osterman's two-run shot in the fourth was one of Puerto Rico's two hits on the day. She now has two hits and a walk in her firs three games.
Brazil is off Saturday before facing Team USA at 1 p.m. ET Sunday in a contest that will be televised nationally by ESPN2. Puerto Rico will play Australia at 9:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
