Martin, Wise lead Lookouts to 1-0 win over M-Braves
PEARL, Miss. (WRCB) -- J.T. Wise's run-scoring groundout was all starter Ethan Martin needed to lead Chattanooga to a 1-0 win over Mississippi Thursday night at Trustmark Park.
The Lookouts (5-3) have now won four in a row and the first three of the five-game series with the M-Braves.
Martin (7-3) surrendered just four hits and struck out four in seven shutout innings before turning the one-run advantage over to the bullpen. Wes Roehmer tossed a scoreless eighth before Logan Bawcom closed it out for his team-leading ninth save.
Blake Smith's lead-off triple set the table for the Lookouts' lone tally. He ripped a shot over Todd Cunningham's head in center field, then scored on Wise's groundout to short in the next at-bat.
Zeke Spruill was the tough-luck loser for Mississippi, giving up the run and just four hits in six-plus innings. The Braves' prospect walked four, but overcame them with nine strikeouts.
The two teams will play game four of the five-game series Friday night at 8 p.m. ET. The Lookouts will wrap up the series Saturday then return home to AT&T Field to open a brief three-game series with Tennessee.
