Gearrin selected for Triple-A All-Star Game

Posted: Updated:

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (WRCB) -- Cory Gearrin hasn't been able to stick in the big-leagues yet this year, but the Rhea County High grad continues to shine in the minors.

The right-handed reliever was selected Wednesday as one of the Gwinnett Braves' two representatives for the upcoming Triple-A All-Star Game. The contest is scheduled for July 11 in Buffalo, and will be Gearrin's first all-star game experience.

In two appearances for the Atlanta Braves, Gearrin went 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 2.2 innings. But in 25 minor league relief appearances he boasts a bullpen-best 1.34 ERA and seven saves. Gearrin also ranks in the International League's top five in opponent batting average (.169) and fewest baserunners per nine innings (8.48).

Teammate Ernesto Mejia will join Gearrin in the All-Star Game. The G-Braves first baseman is among the league's top hitters with a .311 average and 15 home runs.
