Burned Bridgeport man arrested for arson

BRIDGEPORT, AL (WRCB) -- A Bridgeport man who suffered burn injuries in a June 16 residential fire has been arrested and charged with setting the fire himself.

Tuesday, agents of the Alabama Fire Marshal's Office and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office arrested Don Leroy Steele, 35, for 2nd degree arson.  The arrest stemmed from the investigation into the June 16 fire on Alabama Avenue in Bridgeport.

The investigation, conducted by the Alabama Fire Marshal's Office with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, determined that Steele started the fire, which not only caused substantial damage to the residence but also caused burn injuries to Steele.

Steele surrendered himself, was booked into the Jackson County Jail, posted a $10,000 bond and has been released.
