Walking Horse group challenges USDA in court

(WRCB) - A Walking Horse group is challenging the USDA in Federal Court.

It all centers on new regulations and mandatory penalties for abusing Tennessee Walking Horses.

The issue surfaced when video was released, showing what's called "horse soring."

Trainers use chemicals and other methods to give the horses their distinct gait.

Three men pleaded guilty in federal court in Chattanooga, and will be sentenced in September.

The USDA recently announced mandatory penalties for horse abuse.

A group called "Show", which inspects horses in the National Celebration, says it's unconstitutional.

They claim the new rules deny an appeal to anyone accused of soring.
