ATHENS, Ga. (UGA) -- Former University of Georgia men's tennis player and four-time All-America John Isner has been named to the U.S. Olympic tennis team for singles and doubles, it was announced Tuesday.

Isner – making his Olympics debut – is currently ranked No. 10 in the world and is the highest-ranked American on the men's side. He will compete for the United States in singles while also teaming up with Andy Roddick in doubles. Two mixed doubles teams will be chosen once players arrive on site, with that event returning to the Olympics for the first time in 88 years.

The tennis portion of the Games begins July 28 and will be held at Wimbledon.

The United States roster includes 19 of the current top 20 players in the men's and women's rankings.

Already in 2012 Isner posted victories over a pair of current or former No. 1 players, defeating Roger Federer in Davis Cup action in February before taking down top-ranked Novak Djokovic at the Masters 1000 tournament at Indian Wells in March. He also reached the quarterfinals of the 2011 U.S. Open.

Isner was a four-time All-America at Georgia from 2004-07 and led the Bulldogs to the 2007 NCAA title. He remains the school record holder in both singles and doubles wins for a career.
