Calhoun police searching for truck stop robbers

CALHOUN, GA (WRCB) -- Calhoun Police are looking for three suspects in connection with a theft at the Wilco Travel Plaza located just off exit 318 of I-75 in Gordon County.

Calhoun Police Chief Garry Moss said officers were dispatched to the Wilco Travel Plaza on US Highway 41 North around 10:00 p.m. Monday evening.  When they arrived. they were told that three people had entered together and while two of the suspects distracted the clerk the other suspect entered the office by prying open the door. 

An employee had entered the office and interrupted the suspect while he was going through a desk.  The suspect, described as a black male, run out of the office and into the parking lot.  As several employees tried to stop the suspect, he produced a handgun.  

The suspect, along with a white female and a black female, then left the location in a champagne colored Volvo and are believed to have accessed I-75 as their escape route.

"These three individuals are believed to be part of a larger group that travel around the South perpetrating these type thefts.  We have received information from other agencies in Georgia as well as Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia confirming the three suspects, along with others, was captured on video while in the act of committing similar thefts," said Det. Lt. Tony Pyle.

"We are working in conjunction with several law enforcement agencies at this time and our detective division has obtained numerous forensic clues from the crime scene.  We believe this forensic evidence will lead us to the positive identification of these suspects in the near future," said Chief Moss.
