Braves' Heyward named NL Player of the Week

ATLANTA (WRCB/MLB) -- Atlanta outfielder Jason Heyward has been named the National League Player of the Week after a torrid six-game interleague stretch.

The third-year slugger received the his first career weekly honor Monday via an announcement on MLB Network.

Heyward hit a league-leading .522 (12-for-23) and led the NL in slugging percentage (1.130) across a pair of three-game sets against the Yankees and Red Sox.

The 22-year-old hit three home runs and three doubles, drove in five runs and scored nine times while racking up 26 total bases. He also had four multi-hit games in that stretch.

Heyward is hitting .369 in the month of June and has now hit in safely in 18 of his last 22 games, raising his season average to .278. He's tied with Dan Uggla for the Braves' lead with 11 home runs, and currently sits third on the team with 35 RBI.

The Braves, who went 3-3 during that six-game stretch, are off Monday before opening a 10-game homestand Tuesday night against Arizona.
