Governor Haslam announces grant for Riverwalk expansion
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam announced a grant to expand the Downtown Riverwalk Monday.
The $2.3 million grant will be used for Phase III of the Downtown Riverwalk Project, connecting it to the bike route on South Broad Street, and the Lookout Mountain trail system.
"The project will provide a valuable means for pedestrians and
cyclists to access destinations along its route without competing with traffic
on busy thoroughfares while also offering safe access to local industries and
new developments," Haslam says. "Projects such as this enhance local
communities and make Tennessee an even better place to live, work and play."
Every year TDOT gives grants for non-traditional transportation projects, like bike and pedestrian trials and landscaping.
