Chattanooga's Chandler Lawson makes Top 10 in Miss America pageant
LAS VEGAS (WRCB) - Chandler Lawson, a Chattanooga resident, advanced to the Top 10 in the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas on Saturday night before being eliminated. Lawson sang Adele's "Turning Tables" in the talent portion of the competition.
Lawson became the 60th Miss Tennessee crowned in Jackson in June. The Tullahoma native graduated from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and was the reigning Miss Chattanooga.
This year was Lawson's third attempt to win Miss Tennessee. She was first runner-up last year as Miss Chattanooga 2011 and competed as Miss Scenic City in 2010.
Lawson is a summa cum laude graduate of UTC with a B.S. in Political Science and has been accepted to the University of Tennessee School of Law. She was named UTC's Chancellor's Ambassador, was an Honor's College Council member, was a National Honors College Conference Representative, served as Pre-Law Club Secretary and was Tennessee's Intercollegiate State Legislative Representative. Chandler served as a Student Government Senator her freshman through junior year of college, serving as President of Freshman Senate and chairing the Projects Committee and Academic Affairs Committee.
Stefanie Witler, also from Chattanooga, was Miss Tennessee 2010 and was second runner-up to Miss America that year. Witler was a Friday Night Football correspondent for Channel 3.
Miss New York took home the crown.
