St. Jude Stories of Hope: Reese Martin
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- In just a couple of days a $300,000 dollar home is being given away. The St. Jude Dream Home gives you an opportunity at a new house, and even more importantly it's helping families fighting cancer.
Local families like the Martins, who have had plenty of ups and downs since they learned their little boy had cancer.
"Yes, it's a roller coaster ride for sure," said Regennia Martin.
Her son Reese has neuroblastoma. The Martins went to St. Jude in Memphis for treatment.
"They take a lot of worry, it's kind of a big burden taken off your shoulders when you get there," said Regennia. "They are, you know, the best in the world and if you want to treat childhood cancer that's the best place to be treated."
A lot has happened since his diagnosis. A baby brother, Riley. A trip to Colorado and a ride on a dog sled.
But also a relapse when a brain tumor was discovered.
The tumor was removed but the news from the doctors still wasn't good: they've given Reese zero chance to survive.
But the martins are not without hope. Or faith. Or humor
"Now I got more girlfriends and one of them is Renee. She's a cougar," says a laughing Reese.
What does the future hold for Reese Martin? His mom is pretty sure she knows.
"He's going to be a great speaker someday. I can already see him in lights and on stage saying you know this is what happened to me and there is nothing in your life that you cannot deal with if you just walk in faith," she says.
"I got the best mom in the world," says Reese. "I got the best mom of all!"
