Murder for hire suspect in court, waives preliminary hearing
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - A woman charged in a murder for hire plot was in court Tuesday and the victim and witness in the case had plenty to say.
Police believe Sharon Zurconett tried to hire someone to kill a woman who was dating a former friend, but the man she allegedly hired, called police who investigated Zurconett for a month.
In court Tuesday, Zurconett waived her right to a preliminary hearing.
The victim, Celestea Figueroa, and Zurconett's ex-friend were both there. Gary Cooper says he never dated Zurconett, as she claims. He says he was merely a friend.
Cooper says he's not sure how she got the idea they were anything more than friends, and told Channel 3 about the moment they learned of the plot.
"I was really shocked. Lost a little bit. How could she do this? I love this woman. This lady means everything to me. She's supposed to be my friend. Why can't you let your friend be happy," Gary Cooper said.
Judge Clarence Shattuck bound her case over to the grand jury and he ordered Zurconett to have no contact with the victim or witnesses in the case.
