Jurrjens gettting second chance with Braves

Posted: Updated:

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - One year ago, Jair Jurrjens was on his way to the All-Star game.

On Monday, Jurrjens was shagging fly balls with the Braves' Triple-A Gwinnett team.

It has been a humbling eight weeks for Jurrjens since his demotion to the minors on April 24. He has had mixed results with Gwinnett, but with Sunday's announcement that Brandon Beachy was headed to the disabled list came the word Jurrjens will be recalled to start for Atlanta on Friday at Boston.

Jurrjens says he's "definitely not" planning to be just a fill-in with Atlanta. The pitcher who led the Braves with 13 wins last season says he is determined to take advantage of his renewed confidence and stronger right knee and stick in Atlanta's rotation.
