Niota man catches 3 teen burglars in the act

Posted: Updated:

NIOTA, MCMINN COUNTY, TN. (WRCB) -- Three teens are arrested Monday, after police say a Niota man caught them breaking into his home.

The police report states the incident happened on Farrell Street around 4:16 p.m.

The homeowner, Keith Bester, told police his home had been burglarized several times, so he and a friend, Lugh Lemley, parked their cars at another home and waited to see what would happen.

Bester, who told police he had a gun, says three teenagers came to his home and forced their way in.

Bester and Lemley were waiting in separate bedrooms upstairs, each hiding behind a door. When two of the suspects entered the rooms, the report says Bester and Lemley slammed the doors behind them.

After both suspects were placed in one room, Lemley found the third teen in the kitchen.

Police found all three boys, who are between 15 and 16 years old, in the upstairs room and arrested them.

They were taken to the juvenile detention center, and later released to their parents.
