Doctors fear deadly 'skittles party' trend among teens
(WRCB) - Local health experts say one of the solutions to prescription drug abuse among teens is proper disposal.
Doctors at Children's Hospital at Erlanger say they've seen an increase in teens taking part in "skittle parties," where teens dump a variety of drugs into a dish and take pills at random.
Doctors say they saw 34 teenagers who had taken toxic substances in 2011. Seven percent of them had taken multiple drugs.
A CDC report shows the poisoning death rate among teens doubled between 1999 and 2009.
