(AP) - Governor Nathan Deal is touring Georgia to sign local bills and discuss the state budget, including funding for the Port of Savannah.

The Republican governor plans to start Tuesday with an appearance at the Georgia Health Sciences University in Augusta.

He'll then head to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro and finish at the Port of Savannah. A budget recently passed by state lawmakers includes roughly $47 million to deepen the port so it can accommodate larger ships.

Deal has not yet signed a $39.5 billion budget plan for the financial year starting in July. It would spend about $19.3 billion in state funds. The governor can sign the budget, reject it or use a line-item veto to strike some spending.
