CHATTANOOGA (UTC) -- Senior shortstop Jessica Traxler was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week on Monday after the University of Tennesseee at Chattanooga softball team's dominating weekend.
The Chino Hills, Calif., native went 7-for-14 with three home runs and eight RBI during the week, while compiling a 1.143 slugging pct.
This is the first weekly honor for Traxler, who is playing in her fourth season with Chattanooga.
The Lady Mocs have now taken five of the 11 league player of the week honors this season as senior designated player and pitcher Michelle Fuzzard holds four. Freshman Taylor Deason is additionally a two-time pitcher of the week.
Chattanooga's shortstop registered a hit in all five contests this week, which included two multi-hit games. She was perfect defensively at the shortstop position tallying six putouts and six assists.
Traxler started off the week in fine fashion as she and freshman third baseman Sarah Beth Roberts connected on back-to-back homers to begin the third inning of game one against UAB.
She notched her first multi-hit game of the week in the series opener at Samford. Traxler helped to cement the Lady Mocs lead in the third of game two by crushing a pitch over the fence in straight-away center, driving in two, while she also drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk in the fourth.
In the series finale, Traxler started the scoring in the Lady Mocs 10-run third with an RBI single. She later capped the frame with a three-run home run to center.
Chattanooga returns to Frost Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against Furman beginning at 1 p.m. Traxler along with senior Vivian Morimoto and Fuzzard will be recognized on Senior Day prior to the Sunday finale at 2 p.m. ET.
