Power surge knocks dozens of Georgia agencies offline

ATLANTA (AP) - A spokesman for the state's technology authority says a power surge was responsible for an outage that disrupted computer access to dozens of state agencies for most of the day Saturday.

The Georgia Technology Authority says technicians were performing routine electrical maintenance when the outage occurred and the power surge damaged a computer network switch.

Agencies including law enforcement, driver services, the Department of Human Services and the state's criminal database were affected. Officials say they do not know when the surge happened.
