DANIEL ISLAND, SC (UTC) -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga fired a two-under par 286 to vault into first place at the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship at Ralston Creek Course.
UTC owns a nine-shot lead, while senior Stephan Jaeger holds a four-stroke margin for medalist honors.
All four counting cards were par or better Monday for the Mocs. Chris Robb and Benni Weilguni led the way with one-under par 71's. Jaeger and Liam Johnston each had even-par 72's. Steven Fox had the drop score with a 74.
It was a very consistent round for UTC with 62 of 72 counting holes registered as a birdie or par. Chattanooga had 12 birdies and 50 pars.
Jaeger, a former Baylor School star and candidate for the prestigious Ben Hogan Award, maintains a four-shot lead. He is joined in the top ten by Robb, who tied for seventh at plus three. Fox and Johnston are tied for 14th at five over, while Weilguni comes in tied for 26th at plus seven.
Chattanooga leads Samford in second by nine. Georgia Southern is in third at 591, 11 strokes off the pace. UTC's 286 was the low round of the day by 10 ahead of Samford's 296.
The Mocs final round starts Tuesday at 9:50 a.m., off the No. 1 tee. Weilguni leads off followed by Johnston (10:00), Fox (10:10), Robb (10:20) and Jaeger (10:30).
