Presidential candidate censured by Tennessee ethics panel

Posted: Updated:

(WRCB) – A Chattanooga lawyer and presidential candidate has been censured by a Tennessee ethics panel.

According to the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court, John McConnell Wolfe, Jr. was issued a Public Censure on Friday.

The ethics panel reports:

"Mr. Wolfe was hired to represent a client in a personal injury action against a Veterans' Administration Hospital.  He untimely mailed the federal notice of claim and untimely filed a lawsuit after the claim was denied.  The lawsuit was dismissed because of the failure to comply with the statutory deadlines.  Wolfe failed to notify his client that the notice of claim was denied and that the lawsuit was dismissed.  He failed to return numerous messages and failed to appear for scheduled appointments with his client."

According to the BPR, a Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorney's ability to practice law.

Wolfe is running for President on the Democratic ticket in several states.
