Multi-state high speed chase of murder suspect shuts down I-75
BARTOW COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -- A high-speed police pursuit of a murder suspect from Kentucky came through the Chattanooga area and ended early Saturday morning just north of Lake Allatoona in Bartow County.
According to Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap, at 2:25AM Saturday morning Catoosa County 911 contacted Bartow County 911 to advise of a high speed interstate chase coming toward Bartow County.
The chase had started in Hamilton County, Tennessee and involved a suspect in a Fort Campbell, Kentucky homicide.
At 2:33AM, the chase crossed into Bartow County with Georgia State Patrol assisting along with other counties. The suspect was driving a white Cadillac at speeds up to 120mph.
At about 2:47AM, the chase ended in Bartow County near Allatoona Lake after the suspect had ran over tire puncture devices deployed by Bartow County Sheriff's Office and a P.I.T. maneuver was performed.
The suspect was transported by Life Force helicopter for a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Sheriff Millsap stated that his office is assisting Fort Campbell authorities and had no further information about the incident.
Interstate 75 southbound was shut down partially for more than three hours due to the incident, but has since been re-opened.
