CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Two Chattanooga Police Officers were taken to a local hospital after crashing their patrol cars late Friday night. It happened in front of RaceWay at 5455 Hixson Pike.
Police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Jefferson said Officer Casey Cleveland was driving southbound on Hixson Pike when he observed a vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. He clocked the vehicle with his radar and it indicated that the vehicle was traveling 67mph in a 45mph zone.
He attempted a U-turn to catch the speeding vehicle. As Cleveland was turning around he struck the front driver's side of Officer Almir Dizdarevic's patrol vehicle.
Officer Dizdarevic had been traveling northbound on Hixson Pike trying to catch up to the same speeding vehicle.
After the vehicle's collided Officer Dizdarevic's continued traveling into a yard and coming to a rest against a house.
"We were inside and all the sudden we heard a loud noise," said Arnoldo Robles, the man who lives at the house. The vehicle caused minor damage to the home, but both patrol cars look to be totaled.
Both officers were taken to Northpark Hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries.
