Nearby home invasion places school on lock down
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Chattanooga Police are looking for an armed suspect in a home invasion Friday, that put a school on lock down.
The incident happened on Mt. Vernon Avenue around 11:45 a.m.
Sergeant Wayne Jefferson says a man pulled a gun on the victim, Casey Smith, when he came to the door.
Once inside the home, Sergeant Jefferson says the suspect tied Smith up with brown packing tape.
The victim was able to free himself and run out the front door while the suspect searched his home.
The suspect then ran from the scene and into a silver car, possibly a 90s model Buick or Oldsmobile.
The incident placed Normal Park Upper School on lock down for about 20 minutes.
A school spokesperson says close contact was kept with police, and the lock down was ended once police deemed the area safe.
Police say the suspect is between 25 and 30 years old, 5'10", 170 pounds, with short, curly, black hair, mustache and thin goatee. He was wearing a big green jacket.
