Woman awarded clemency may not be free for years
(WRCB) - A woman awarded clemency by out-going Governor Phil Bredesen, may not be free for years, if ever.
Shawnda James was 14 years old when she shot her sleeping aunt in West Tennessee.
Bredesen commuted her sentence to life with parole.
Our NBC affiliate in Nashville reports James, now 31 years old, wants everyone to know she is a changed person and will not take a second chance at life for granted.
But the D.A. said James lied during the parole hearing and she made a to-do list before the murder.
The parole hearing officer made a recommendation against parole and urged court officials not to hear her case again until 2018.
