Threat of wildfires soars in Georgia

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

(AP) - Forecasters warn the threat of wildfires is high across much of Georgia, and any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for high fire danger from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The warning covers north and central Georgia, where winds are expected to gust up to 25 mph. Forecasters say humidity will be low, helping to create potentially dangerous fire conditions.

In metro Atlanta, brush fires poured smoke on interstates on Tuesday, causing poor visibility. Firefighters in DeKalb County battled blazes along I-20 and I-285.

(WRCB) - Good Sunday. Your Easter morning has turned out to be just a bit cool with lows this morning ranging from the upper 30s in the mountains to the mid 40s in the valley. This afternoon, we will warm up quite a bit as highs climb to the mid to upper 70s. The low pressure that brought the clouds and light showers yesterday continues to pull away leaving in it's wake nothing but sunshine. The sunny skies continue Monday as we warm up to about 78. The average high is 73.More

(WRCB) - Good Saturday. While we have seen a few light sprinkles this morning, the bulk of the rain stayed east and south of the area, and I think that will continue to be the case. For the rest of the day we can expect mostly cloudy skies with a high today of 74. We will see our winds increasing behind the front to 10-20 mph from the northeast.Tonight, the winds die down, and we will see some clearing heading through the overnight.More
