Lookouts win series-opener at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WRCB) -- J.T. Wise drove in a pair of runs and Allen Webster escaped trouble through six innings to lead Chattanooga to a 4-3 win over Jacksonville at the Baseball Grounds on Tuesday night.

Wise was the only Lookouts' player with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a pair of singles. His two-run base knock in the second opened the scoring in a three-run inning that included an RBI-single from Kyle Russell.

The Suns (3-3) rallied to tie it with two runs in the third and one in the fourth off Lookouts' starter Allen Webster. But they wasted several other opportunities while stranding nine runners.

The Lookouts added their final tally on Blake Smith's double in the fifth. Smith also helped Webster escape a jam when he threw out Jake Smolinksi at the plate from right field to end the third.

Webster (1-1) gave up the three earned runs on nine hits in six innings to pick up his first win of the season. After struggling with his control on opening day, the right-hander issued just one walk Tuesday and struck out three.

The two teams will play game two of the five-game series Wednesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. ET.
