CHATTANOOGA (UTC/WRCB) -- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team used a quick start and a big finish to rout Tennessee Tech 8-0 in six innings in a non-conference tilt Tuesday night at Frost Stadium.
Jessica Traxler's bases-loaded double drove in three runs in the first, and the Lady Mocs used a four-run sixth-inning to close out the scoring.
Cheyenne Willis tallied three hits and an RBI, while Layne Rainey added two hits and drove in a run.
Willis started the rally in the sixth with a chopper down the right-field line that scored Kaiti Dutton for a 5-0 lead. Stephanie Rieck followed with an RBI single to left before Michelle Fuzzard reached on an error that scored another run.
Vivian Morimoto capped the scoring with a stand-up RBI double to right-center for the 8-0 final.
Fuzzard started in the circle and picked up her tenth win, giving up just two hits in four shutout four innings. Taylor Deason closed out the final two innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out three.
The Lady Mocs return to action on Saturday, hosting Western Carolina for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET. The finale of the series will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.
