Lady Mocs' Fuzzard named POTW for fourth time in 2012

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (UTC/WRCB) -- Michelle Fuzzard didn't get much to hit during a three-game weekend series with Elon, but that didn't stop the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga slugger from being named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for a fourth time this season.

In four games total for the week, Fuzzard was walked a ridiculous ten times, including eight in one day in Friday's doubleheader with the Phoenix.

Fuzzard went 4-for-6 in her official at-bats with a solo home run and five RBI. Combined with the walks, she reached safely in 14 of her 16 plate appearances for the week for an .875 on-base percentage.

She did the most damage in Wednesday's non-conference tilt with Marshall, going 2-for-3 with a solo homer and three RBI in UTC's 4-1 win.

The fifth-year senior designated player/pitcher padded her SoCon-leading career RBI total to 197, and now has 69 career multi-hit games and 46 career multi-RBI contests.

Fuzzard, who is the reigning SoCon Player of the Year, has now been named the league's player of the week eight times in her career. She currently stands two weekly honors shy of Furman's Julie Glasser for the all-time SoCon mark. Glasser won ten weekly honors between 1994 and 1997.

Fuzzard and the Lady Mocs continue a ten-game homestand on Tuesday with a non-league contest against Tennessee Tech beginning at 6 p.m. Fan Appreciation Night will be held at Frost Stadium with $1 hot dogs and $1 drinks, while prizes will be given away in the Lady Mocs Softball Squares promotion.
