Big rig headed towards Nashville strikes pedestrian, flees

JASPER, MARION COUNTY -

(WRCB) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol is asking for help finding a truck involved in a hit and run in Marion County.

According to troopers, a tractor-trailer struck a pedestrian on the side of Interstate 24 near mile marker 145 Friday morning.

Michael Anthony Bellgowan, 48, of Palm Bay, Florida, was standing on the side of the interstate when he was struck by the big rig around 12:15 a.m.

Investigators say skid marks on the roadway indicate the driver of the truck saw Bellgowan and tried to avoid the pedestrian. After striking the man, the driver of the truck fled the scene, continuing west on I-24.

Troopers are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or noticed a tractor-trailer with possible damage to the front end to contact the THP in Chattanooga at 423-634-5856.
